Activity: The Iodine Test Experiment
In order to identify the presence of starch in different foods, students in Gr5 class carried out an experiment in the lab. They placed a few drops of iodine solution on different food samples such as bread, potatoes, and rice. They observed that the iodine turned blue-black in foods containing starch, while it remained brown in those without starch. Through this hands-on activity, students learned how to test for starch and understand its importance in food.
